About Jonathan Turtle
My interest in Integrative Medicine was nurtured from my infancy. Though born in Sydney, I grew up in New Zealand and had the huge good fortune to live amongst and to travel widely around the Edenesque natural beauty of that modern day middle earth. This created a strong emotional affinity to the natural world which was balanced by the equally strong intellectual influence of being raised by a scientist to have wonder and respect for the huge complexity and power of the natural physical world, as well as to appreciate the invaluable importance of a rigorous scientific approach to understand and to utilise that natural world.
I returned to Australia in 1968, living in Sydney and attending The Scots College. I studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales and upon graduation in 1980, moved to live and work in our bush capital, Canberra. After working in General Practice for over 5 years I strongly felt the imbalance in orthodox medicine with it’s strong focus on the scientific approach to medicine, but no real appreciation of the natural world in treatment options. I thus began studying Integrative Medicine and after another 5 years, in 1986 I attained my Fellowship of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine.
For over 20 years I ran Canberra’s premier Integrative Multidisciplinary Medical Practice, and have continued to study and broaden my knowledge and skills in both Integrative Medicine as well as orthodox Western Medicine. By 2011, however, I was due for a sea change and have returned to live and work in my hometown, the beautiful harbour city, Sydney.
Since arriving in Sydney I have worked in several practices, initially at the Pymble Grove Health Centre in Gordon and the Avenue Rd Medical Practice in Mosman. Wanting to have a more focused base I then moved 2 years ago to a new practice in Best Avenue Mosman.
While all of these clinics have had much to commend them I have now realised that in order to more effectively be able to deliver an optimal integrative medical service that I need to build a multi-disciplinary team of allied health professionals. Hence I have moved to set up my own new clinic with Oasis Integrative Medicine
My extra-curricular interests include spending time with my family, my partner and her two sons, my own 4 beautiful adult daughters and 2 lovely young grandsons, as well as with good friends. I enjoy walking and swimming for both pleasure and exercise, and feel so spoilt with Sydney’s amazing variety of beautiful options for both these pursuits.
I am an unrepentant Rugby tragic and remain ever hopeful of a new golden age for the Wallabies as well as the Waratahs. I am also very interested in environmental issues and politics in general, both national and international, enjoy a good book, and of course love travel.
